Plastic Recycling in the City of La Crosse
09/02/2010 - Article by Cynthia Mischnick
As of June 1, 2010, the City of La Crosse joined all other municipalities in La Crosse County in the mandatory recycling of two types of plastic, PETE & HDPE. No, they are not Dr. Seuss’ Thing 1 and Thing 2 from the Cat in the Hat, but that might be a good way to remember which plastics symbols you should be searching for on your household waste items. The symbols are typically found on the bottom of the container, but sometimes you have to hunt for them. Common forms of these plastics are bottles for soft drinks, water, mouthwash, salad dressing , milk, juice, dish soap…and the list goes on and on.
To recycle, remove the lids and toss (they are not a 1 or 2), rinse, crush , and place the plastic in your regular green recycling bin. For complete information, take a look at the City’s plastic recycling web page: http://www.cityoflacrosse.org/index.aspx?NID=2115 .
And, a big thanks to the citizens and council members who made this happen!
